On Friday, November 13th Healthfirst held its annual Fall Symposium.  The symposium, titled "Innovations and Best Practices in Value-Based Healthcare: Meeting the Complex Needs of Patients, Their Families and Communities" delved into the growing trend in healthcare that has medical providers working to address non-medical issues to improve patient's health.  Chairman of Family Medicine, Dr. Doug Reich, presented at the symposium "The Claremont Healthy Village Initiative: A Community-Based Partnership."  The presentation gave a brief overview of the Claremont Healthy Village Initiative, but focused on the need of medical providers to address the socio-economic determinants of health that often have more influence on patient's lives than prescribing the correct medication.

The presentation was well received, and welcomed discussion around resetting culture expectations in low-income areas to build a community of health, especially targeting reduction of chronic diseases. Congratulations to Dr. Reich and the Claremont Healthy Village Initiative!
