Transitional Year Program

The Department of Family Medicine’s Transitional Year Residency Program is devoted to producing physicians with extensive knowledge and experiences of primary care in their future specialty applications. The program will establish physicians capable of navigating the constantly changing landscape of medical practice for both individuals and family units. The transitional year residency program will prepare physicians for community care by integrating their practice within the South Bronx community, an undeserved, impoverished, yet resilient set of neighborhoods. Through its community care focus, the program will align with the mission and values of not just the Department’s mission of improving the quality of life of the South Bronx, one patient at a time, but also the Hospital’s mission of Caring for the Bronx.
